What to Expect After Submission
After successful submission, you will receive an automated acknowledgment email with your manuscript ID number. Use this ID for all correspondence with the editorial office. Initial editorial assessment typically takes 3-5 business days to confirm scope alignment and completeness. If your manuscript is sent for peer review, expect an initial decision within 2-4 weeks. You can monitor your manuscript status at any time through the ManuscriptZone portal. Our editorial team will contact you if additional information or clarification is needed during the review process.
All submissions to JHHR undergo rigorous single-blind peer review by experts in the relevant health domain. Our review process is designed to be thorough yet efficient:
- Editorial Assessment: The handling editor evaluates scope fit, methodological soundness, and potential significance
- Reviewer Selection: At least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise are invited to evaluate the manuscript
- Review Criteria: Reviewers assess scientific validity, methodology, originality, significance, and presentation quality
- Decision Categories: Possible outcomes include Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject
- Author Response: For revisions, authors receive detailed reviewer comments with clear guidance for improvement
JHHR is an open access journal with article processing charges (APC) payable upon acceptance. No fees are required at submission or during review. Upon acceptance, authors will receive an invoice with payment instructions. We offer discounts for JHHR members and waivers for authors from low-income countries or facing financial hardship. See our APC page for current rates and available discounts.
When revision is requested, authors receive detailed reviewer comments with clear guidance for improvement. For minor revisions, authors typically have 14 days to respond. For major revisions, 30 days is allowed, with extensions available upon request. Authors should provide a point-by-point response document addressing each reviewer comment and explaining how the manuscript has been modified. Revised manuscripts are evaluated by the handling editor and may undergo additional review if substantial changes were requested. Most manuscripts require at least one round of revision before acceptance.
After acceptance, manuscripts enter production for final formatting and typesetting. Authors receive proofs for review and must respond within 48 hours to avoid publication delays. Only minor corrections to typographical errors are permitted at the proof stage. Once final proofs are approved and APC payment is confirmed, articles are published online with DOI assignment typically within 2 weeks. Authors receive notification when their article is live and can share the permanent URL with colleagues and social media networks.
If you have questions about the submission process or need assistance, please contact our editorial office at [email protected]. Our support team responds to inquiries within 1-2 business days. For technical issues with the submission system, please provide your manuscript ID if available. We are here to support authors throughout the publication journey and welcome feedback on how we can improve our processes.
