Aim and Scope
Comprehensive coverage of human health research from basic science to clinical practice and public health, advancing knowledge that improves health outcomes worldwide.
Advancing Health Knowledge Across Disciplines
The Journal of Human Health Research publishes original research, reviews, and case reports that contribute to the understanding, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human health conditions. We welcome submissions from all fields that impact human health, from molecular mechanisms to population-level interventions. Our aim is to provide a platform for rigorous health research that translates into improved patient outcomes and public health.
JHHR aims to advance the understanding of human health through the publication of high-quality, peer-reviewed research that spans the full spectrum of health sciences. We seek to bridge the gap between basic research and clinical application, promoting translational research that has direct relevance to patient care and public health. The journal serves as a forum for researchers, clinicians, and public health professionals to share findings that address pressing health challenges and improve outcomes for individuals and populations.
We are committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration by publishing research that integrates perspectives from multiple health disciplines. By maintaining rigorous scientific standards while ensuring rapid and open dissemination, JHHR supports the global health research community in its mission to reduce disease burden and improve quality of life. Our goal is to publish research that not only advances scientific knowledge but also informs clinical practice, health policy, and public health interventions.
JHHR considers manuscripts addressing, but not limited to, the following areas of human health research. We welcome submissions across all health disciplines and encourage interdisciplinary approaches that address complex health challenges:

Beyond the major disciplines outlined above, JHHR also welcomes research in the following specialized areas that are critical to advancing human health:
- Infectious Diseases: Research on pathogen biology, transmission dynamics, antimicrobial resistance, vaccine development, and infection control strategies
- Chronic Diseases: Studies addressing cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, respiratory conditions, and other chronic health conditions affecting populations worldwide
- Maternal and Child Health: Research on pregnancy, childbirth, neonatal care, child development, and adolescent health
- Aging and Geriatrics: Studies on healthy aging, age-related diseases, geriatric care, and improving quality of life for older adults
- Health Technology: Digital health innovations, telemedicine, health informatics, wearable devices, and artificial intelligence applications in healthcare
- Implementation Science: Research on translating evidence into practice, quality improvement, and health system optimization
JHHR publishes a variety of article types to accommodate different research contributions and communication needs:
- Original Research: Reports of novel findings from clinical, translational, or population-based studies using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods approaches. We welcome studies with positive, negative, or null findings when methodologically sound.
- Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses: Rigorous evidence syntheses following PRISMA guidelines that address clinically relevant questions and inform practice
- Narrative Reviews: Comprehensive reviews synthesizing current knowledge on significant health topics with critical analysis and future directions
- Case Reports and Case Series: Descriptions of unusual cases with educational value that contribute to medical knowledge and clinical practice
- Short Communications: Brief reports of noteworthy preliminary findings, methodological innovations, or urgent health topics warranting rapid dissemination
- Study Protocols: Detailed protocols for clinical trials or other prospective studies that provide transparency and allow methodological review
Priority Topics
While JHHR accepts submissions across all health domains, we particularly encourage research addressing global health priorities that have the potential for significant impact on population health. These include infectious disease prevention and control, chronic disease management, health equity and addressing disparities, digital health innovations and their implementation, climate change and health, and research that addresses the needs of underserved and under-researched populations. We also welcome methodological advances that improve the quality and efficiency of health research.
When evaluating submissions, JHHR editors and reviewers consider the following criteria:
- Originality: Does the research present new findings, methods, or perspectives that advance health knowledge?
- Scientific Rigor: Is the methodology appropriate and executed with sufficient detail for reproducibility?
- Significance: Does the work address an important health question with meaningful implications for research, practice, or policy?
- Ethical Standards: Does the research meet all requirements for ethical conduct, including human subjects protection?
- Clear Communication: Are the methods, results, and conclusions presented clearly and accurately?
JHHR recognizes that many of today's most pressing health challenges require interdisciplinary approaches that bridge traditional disciplinary boundaries. We particularly welcome submissions that integrate perspectives from multiple health disciplines, such as research combining clinical medicine with public health approaches, studies linking behavioral interventions with biological outcomes, or work that addresses the intersection of environmental factors and human health. Interdisciplinary research often generates the most innovative solutions to complex health problems, and JHHR provides a platform for this important work.
All manuscripts submitted to JHHR undergo rigorous single-blind peer review by experts with relevant domain expertise. Our editorial team carefully matches manuscripts with reviewers who can provide informed, constructive feedback. The review process evaluates scientific validity, methodological rigor, significance of findings, and quality of presentation. Editors synthesize reviewer feedback to make fair, timely decisions. Authors receive detailed feedback that helps improve their work, regardless of the final decision. Our goal is to support authors in producing the highest quality research publications.
JHHR is fully committed to the principles of open access publishing. All published articles are immediately and permanently available to readers worldwide without subscription fees or registration requirements. Articles are published under Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license, which allows readers to share and adapt the work with appropriate attribution to the original authors. This open access model ensures that health research reaches its maximum potential audience, including researchers in resource-limited settings who may not have access to subscription journals.
