What publishing in IJSTD costs
IJSTD is an open-access journal: there is no subscription and no charge to read. Its costs are met by an article processing charge, which falls due only after a manuscript has been accepted and is set by article type, from USD 350 for a letter to the editor to USD 2,100 for a systematic review and meta-analysis. Original research is USD 1,850.
There is no submission fee. Nothing is charged for color figures, supplementary files, the length of a manuscript within its stated limit, or the metadata deposited with it. Submission, peer review and revision carry no fee. The APC is invoiced only after acceptance. The separate withdrawal policy below applies when a manuscript is withdrawn.
Payment has no bearing on any editorial decision. Editorial decisions are independent of any fee, service, membership or role, and the decision on a manuscript is made and communicated before the charge is raised.

Charge by article type
Charges differ by article type because the editorial and production work differs: a letter is not a systematic review. The bar draws each charge on one common scale, so the seven figures read as a series rather than as seven unrelated prices.

03 · Sequence
When the charge falls due

Submission
No charge. The manuscript is screened for scope and minimum requirements, and either proceeds to review or is returned.

Peer review and decision
No charge. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.

Acceptance
The charge for the article type is invoiced by the publisher. The decision has already been made and is not revisited.

Production and publication
Copyediting, typesetting, XML and metadata preparation, DOI registration with Crossref, publication under CC BY 4.0, and deposit to Portico for preservation.

What the charge pays for
- Editorial handling
- Screening, reviewer identification and invitation, management of the review and the revision cycle, and the editorial decision.
- Production
- Copyediting, typesetting, figure preparation, and the generation of the full-text and PDF versions.
- Registration and metadata
- A permanent Crossref DOI under the prefix 10.14302, and the deposited metadata that discovery services harvest.
- Open access
- Publication under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license, with copyright retained by the authors and no charge to any reader.
- Preservation
- Inclusion under Open Access Pub's Portico digital-preservation program, so the record survives independently of the journal's own hosting.
- Hosting
- Continued availability of the article and its metadata, and the maintenance that keeps both current as standards change.
05 · Billing
Billing and fee-relief inquiries
The publisher invoices the corresponding author or the institution named at acceptance. Amounts are stated and charged in US dollars; any tax that applies in the payer's jurisdiction is shown on the invoice.
Where the charge is an obstacle, write to the editorial office at [email protected] before or at submission and say so. Billing and fee-relief inquiries are handled by the publisher, separately from the editorial process, and raising one does not affect how a manuscript is assessed.
06 · Withdrawal
Withdrawing a manuscript
The following terms apply to requests to withdraw a manuscript.
- Making a request
- Authors should contact the editorial office promptly and wait for written confirmation before submitting the work elsewhere.
- Early requests
- Manuscripts withdrawn within 3 days of submission are not subject to a withdrawal charge.
- Later requests
- Manuscripts withdrawn more than 3 days after submission incur a withdrawal charge equal to 30% of the journal's APC.
- Before submitting elsewhere
- Authors must receive official withdrawal confirmation before submitting the manuscript to another journal.

Does paying make acceptance more likely?
No. Editorial decisions are independent of any fee, service, membership or role, and the charge is raised only after the decision to accept has been made.
Does paying sooner make review faster?
No. Peer review is independent of all payments. The APC is invoiced only after acceptance; any withdrawal charge follows the policy stated above.
Is there a charge if my manuscript is rejected?
No. The charge applies to accepted manuscripts only.
Which charge applies to my manuscript?
The one for the article type it is published as. Where review changes the type — a brief communication accepted as original research, for example — the charge for the published type applies, and the editorial office confirms it at acceptance.
Who pays?
The corresponding author, an institution, or a funder, as the authors arrange. The publisher invoices whichever is named at acceptance.
