Propose a Special Issue
Journal of Depression And Therapy welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in depression research and therapy. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the proposal requirements and contact the editorial office.
A collection earns its place when a question is genuinely open and a set of papers read together answers more of it than any one of them answers alone. That is the test a proposal is assessed against.

What a Proposal Should Contain
- The question the collection addresses, and why it is worth a collection rather than a single paper
- How it sits within the journal's remit — see the aims and scope page
- The proposed guest editors, with their affiliations and their published work in the area
- The kinds of contribution expected, and roughly how many
- Any competing interest a guest editor would bring to the collection
- A workable timetable from call to publication

How a Collection Is Run
A special issue is part of the journal, not an exception to it. The terms below are the ones a guest editor and a contributing author work under.

Scope
Every manuscript in a collection is assessed against the same remit as any other submission. A themed call narrows what a collection is about; it does not widen or narrow what the journal accepts.

Peer Review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

Guest-Editor Oversight
Guest editors coordinate review for their collection under the oversight of the journal's editors, and work to the same standards set out in the editors guidelines.

Competing Interests and Recusal
Guest editors declare competing interests and recuse themselves from manuscripts they have authored, co-authored or have an interest in. Those manuscripts are handled independently by a journal editor. Proposing or guest-editing a collection confers no advantage in the review of that person's own work.

Decision Authority
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Final decision authority rests with the journal, not with the guest editors.

Charges
Accepted manuscripts in a collection carry the journal's standard article processing charge, on the terms on the article processing charges page.

Publication
Articles in a collection are published open access under CC BY 4.0 with a Crossref DOI, and enter the journal's permanent archive like any other article.
Submitting to a Collection
Where a collection is open, its call names the theme and the guest editors, and manuscripts reach it by the journal's ordinary routes. Name the collection in your cover letter so the office can route the manuscript to its guest editors.
