Overview
Biotechnology is the application of biological systems, organisms, or cellular processes to develop technologies and products that improve human life and the health of the planet. Research in this area spans diverse applications including the use of cyanobacteria in agriculture, medicine, and environmental management, as well as the industrial and biotechnological potential of algae and yeast species for bioprocessing. The field increasingly relies on computational approaches, with bioinformatics playing an emerging role in analyzing complex biological data, including metabolomics studies in conditions such as diabetes mellitus. Published work addresses biotechnology's relevance to climate change mitigation, drug design through integrated in silico, in vitro, and in vivo research pipelines, and molecular diagnostics for genetic disorders. Studies also explore cellular mechanisms at the molecular level, including transcription factor regulation in inflammatory responses and epithelial-mesenchymal transitions in disease contexts. The integration of network pharmacology with experimental validation represents a growing approach to understanding therapeutic mechanisms. This multidisciplinary field matters because it bridges fundamental biological understanding with practical solutions for health, agriculture, industry, and environmental sustainability.
