Overview
Soil health is a measure of the well-being of the soil in which crops and other plants are grown. It is an important factor in the productivity and sustainability of agricultural systems. Healthy soil has the right balance of nutrients, organic matter, and soil structure that allows it to provide essential services such as water infiltration, water holding capacity, air porosity, and fertility. Poor soil health can lead to reduced crop yields and ultimately, to food insecurity. Improving soil health through sustainable practices such as crop rotation, cover cropping, integrated pest management, and soil conservation can help to ensure a healthy and productive environment for crop growth and agricultural productivity.
