Overview
Endocrinology is the study of endocrine glands and hormones, which are the regulatory molecules that travel through the bloodstream and affect metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, sexual function, fertility, and response to stress. Endocrinologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders that result from abnormal hormone levels, such as diabetes, thyroid disease, and infertility. Endocrinology is an important field of medicine, as it is involved in virtually all aspects of the body's proper functioning.
