Submit a Manuscript
Three routes are open, and all of them reach the same editorial office. Use a single route for each manuscript.
IJNR publishes rigorously conducted research reporting negative, null, non-confirmatory or inconclusive findings across scientific disciplines, including unsuccessful replications, evidence-supported methodological limitations, and systematic reviews or meta-analyses of such findings. Eligible manuscripts are assessed on methodological quality, ethical standards and transparent reporting. Positive confirmatory findings fall outside the journal's remit.
The journal considers manuscripts written in English and handles them under the same editorial process whichever route they arrive by.

Routes
Where to submit
All three are current and permitted. The manuscript system is the primary route; the submission form and the editorial email are alternatives.
Primary route — ManuscriptZone
Submit through the publisher’s manuscript system at oap.manuscriptzone.net. It tracks the submission through review and holds correspondence in one place.
Alternative route — submission form
Use the simple manuscript submission form, which arrives at the editorial office preselected for this journal.
Assisted route — editorial email
Send the manuscript and its declarations to [email protected] and the editorial office will register it for you.
One route per manuscript
Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript. Submitting the same work by two routes creates duplicate records that delay its handling.
Article types
Choosing an article type
The journal accepts four article types. Submit the manuscript under the type that matches its content. What to include depends on the type, as summarized below; full guidance is on Instructions for Authors.
Original Research
Experimental, observational or computational studies reporting negative, null, non-confirmatory or inconclusive findings, including unsuccessful replications.
Review Article
Systematic reviews, meta-analyses and critical evidence syntheses addressing negative findings, reproducibility or publication bias.
Methods and Tools
Evidence-supported evaluations documenting methodological limitations, unsuccessful approaches or tools that fail to achieve their intended performance.
Short Communication
Concise reports of complete, well-supported negative or null findings with sufficient methodological detail.
Original Research
The hypothesis or question tested; outcomes, sample-size justification and statistics where applicable to the design; the applicable reporting guideline; trial registration for interventional clinical trials.
Review Article
The review question; the search, selection and synthesis methods; the protocol or registration and the PRISMA checklist where applicable. Power calculations do not apply.
Methods and Tools
The performance or claim evaluated; evaluation criteria, benchmarks and baselines; the data, code and settings needed to reproduce the evaluation.
Short Communication
The hypothesis or question tested, stated concisely; complete findings with sufficient methodological detail; outcomes and statistics where applicable.
Before you send
What to have ready
Having these ready avoids queries at screening. Full preparation requirements are on Instructions for Authors.
- The manuscript, with the question tested stated, outcomes defined where applicable to the article type, findings reported in full, and methods described in enough detail to be repeated
- Title, abstract (structured, or the equivalent for the article type) and keywords
- Every author’s name, affiliation and ORCID iD where available, and the corresponding author identified
- If you request double-blind review, a separate title-page file carrying the author names, affiliations and other identifying information, with that information removed from the manuscript sent to reviewers
- A cover letter explaining the study, its finding and how it adds to the evidence on the question
- A data-availability statement, with repository links where data or code are deposited
- Ethics approvals and consent documentation where applicable, and trial registration details for interventional clinical trials
- Competing-interest and funding declarations
- Written permission for any figure, table or dataset reproduced from another source
After it arrives
What to expect
Manuscripts pass through these stages in order.
01
Screening
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
02
Review
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
03
Decision
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
04
Publication
On acceptance the article processing charge becomes payable (USD 1,800 for all article types); there is no submission fee. The article is copyedited, typeset, assigned a DOI and published open access under CC BY 4.0. Withdrawal after submission is subject to the journal’s withdrawal policy.
Questions
Before or after you submit
The editorial office answers questions about fit, preparation, documentation and progress at [email protected]. Send the title and abstract if you would like a view on fit first.
The button below opens ManuscriptZone, the primary route. The simple manuscript submission form remains available as an alternative.
Charges and withdrawal terms are on the Article Processing Charges page; the review and ethics framework on Editorial Policies.
