How Editorial Responsibility Is Assigned

A manuscript is handled by the editor whose field it falls in, not by the board as a whole.

  • Assignment

Each submission is assigned to an editor whose own field covers its subject. A member's research interests, shown above as their record lists them, indicate the work they are placed to assess.

  • Screening and Review

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

  • Decisions

Manuscripts are assessed for scope, scholarly quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and research integrity. Decisions are independent of any fee, membership or optional service.

  • Competing Interests and Recusal

Editors declare competing interests and recuse themselves from manuscripts they have authored, co-authored or have a personal or financial interest in. Those manuscripts are handled independently by another editor. Serving on the board confers no advantage in the review of a member's own work.

  • Where the Rules Are Written

Authorship, ethics, consent, data availability, corrections and retractions are set out in the editorial policies, and the remit the board assesses against is on the aims and scope page.

Editorial board membership is maintained by the editorial office. Correspondence about board records should be sent to [email protected].

Bringing Work to the Journal

A manuscript should explain its substantive connection to depression or its treatment, the question it addresses, and the approach used to develop or evaluate its contribution. Consult the instructions for authors for preparation guidance.

Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.
