Submit Manuscript

Three approved submission routes

Submit a manuscript

ManuscriptZone is the primary route for JBBS submissions. Authors may instead use the simple manuscript submission form or, where permitted by the editorial office, submit by email. Use only one route for the same manuscript.

Before you begin

  1. Choose Research, Review or Short Communication.
  2. Prepare a cover letter and manuscript file.
  3. Collect author, ethics, data and funding details.
  4. Choose one submission route and avoid duplicate records.

Before opening the portal

  • Read Aims & Scope and choose Research, Review or Short Communication.
  • Prepare a cover letter and at least one manuscript file.
  • Have the title, abstract, keywords and all author names, affiliations and email addresses ready; add ORCID iDs where available.
  • Prepare funding, competing-interest, author-contribution and data or materials availability statements.
  • Include the ethics, consent, animal-welfare or biosafety information required by the study.
  • Prepare figures, tables, supplementary files and repository or accession identifiers where applicable.

Choose one submission route

Primary: create and track the manuscript in ManuscriptZone. Alternative: use the simple manuscript submission form. Assisted: where permitted by the editorial office, email the manuscript to [email protected]. Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.

Submission stages

  1. Checklist and review modelConfirm the checklist and choose the review model. JBBS policy is single-blind; double-blind may be requested.
  2. Cover letterSelect JBBS and upload the required cover letter.
  3. Article detailsEnter article type, title, abstract, keywords and any classification requested.
  4. FilesUpload at least one manuscript file and any supporting files.
  5. AuthorsConfirm the submitting author and add co-authors where applicable.
  6. Optional informationAdd suggested reviewers and funding details if relevant.
  7. Final reviewCheck all entered information and files.
  8. Duplicate check and submitResolve any possible duplicate identified against earlier records, then submit.

Required declarations

The manuscript or cover letter must state funding and competing interests, data and materials availability, and the approval or consent relevant to human, animal or biosafety-regulated work. The portal does not currently provide separate fields for every declaration, so authors should not rely on account data alone.

What happens next

The editorial office checks scope, completeness and essential declarations. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally assessed by two to three independent reviewers under single-blind review, or double-blind review when requested. Reviewer recommendations inform the responsible editor; submission does not guarantee external review or acceptance. Editorial decisions are independent of article processing charges, memberships and paid services.

For the 38 articles published between 2017 and 2026, the median recorded interval from submission to acceptance was 30.5 days, with an interquartile range of 24 to 51 days. The median from acceptance to publication was 8 days, with an interquartile range of 4 to 16 days. These are observed medians for published articles, not service commitments; an individual manuscript may take longer.

Incomplete, revised and duplicate records

An unfinished ManuscriptZone submission remains attached to the author account as a draft. Use that record to continue. Do not submit a revision as a new manuscript or create a second record through another route. ManuscriptZone compares a new draft with the author’s earlier submissions and asks for confirmation when a potentially related record is found.

Need assistance?

For a scope question, send a provisional title, abstract and short explanation of the biotechnology or biomedical contribution to [email protected]. For an account or upload problem, include the journal name and a screenshot or exact error message. Do not send confidential payment-card information by email.

New authors can create an account from the sign-in page and select JBBS during registration. The simple form and assisted email route remain secondary alternatives.

Submission is not acceptance. The responsible editor applies the same scholarly and ethical criteria to every manuscript.
