Overview

Neurology is the branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and study of disorders of the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. It addresses a broad spectrum of conditions, such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, migraine, and infections and tumors affecting the nervous system. Because the nervous system governs movement, sensation, cognition, and many automatic bodily functions, neurological disorders can have wide-ranging effects, and their management often combines careful clinical assessment with imaging, electrophysiology, and other diagnostic tools. Research relevant to this field includes work on the prevalence and early predictors of symptomatic lacunar infarction, the evaluation of a stroke protocol using computed tomography angiography for acute ischemic stroke, and a study of disability and prognostic factors of severity in multiple sclerosis. Other contributions explore the role of music in neurology, the history of therapeutic approaches and the early use of blinding in neurological clinical research, and the diagnosis of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in a patient undergoing chemotherapy. Together these studies span the diagnostic, therapeutic, and historical dimensions of neurological care. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to the nervous system and its disorders.
