Overview
Personalized medicine is a type of healthcare that focuses on providing individualized treatments to patients based on their genetic profiles and other characteristics. It allows doctors to better understand a patient’s disease and target treatments to their specific needs, potentially providing more successful treatments with fewer adverse side effects. Personalized medicine holds promise for improving medical care by providing treatments that are tailored to each individual, and it has the potential to reduce health care costs, as well as improve outcomes. For example, cancer treatments could be tailored to individual patients to target the specific mutations in their cancer cells. Additionally, more accurate diagnostic tests and targeted treatments could reduce the number of trial-and-error approaches currently used in medicine. As personalized medicine continues to progress, it has the potential to revolutionize healthcare and dramatically improve the quality of care provided to those suffering from a variety of diseases.
