Overview
Taxonomy is the science of classifying living organisms into hierarchically arranged categories based on their shared characteristics. It is a system used to name and organize species and taxonomic groupings of closely related organisms. Taxonomy provides an important reference point for understanding the relationships between different species, and for predicting their responses to changes in their environment. This knowledge is essential for understanding biodiversity, to identify potential threats to species, and to design effective conservation strategies. It is also used to develop drugs and other products based on the potential of species, to create food and farming systems that are sustainable, and even to detect the emergence of new diseases.
