Overview

Stat proteins are a family of transcription factors that play important roles in many cellular processes, from the regulation of gene expression to cell signaling and apoptosis. Stat proteins are activated by cytokines, growth factors, and other extracellular signals which activate intracellular kinases that phosphorylate the Stat proteins. The activated Stat proteins translocate to the cell nucleus and bind to gene promoters, resulting in the upregulation of target genes involved in inflammatory responses and cell proliferation. Stat proteins are key players in immunity, development, and cell cycle progression, and their dysregulation can lead to various diseases. This makes Stat proteins attractive therapeutic targets for a wide range of diseases.
