ic Protein Periplasmic proteins are proteins found in the periplasm, a narrow region between the inner and outer membranes of Gram-negative bacteria. Periplasmic proteins play a vital role in protecting bacterial cells from environmental stressors, such as extreme temperatures, reactive oxygen species and antimicrobial compounds. They are also involved in processes such as nutrient binding, adhesion, uptake of macromolecules, and secretion of macromolecules. These proteins are essential for numerous cellular functions, and their malfunction can cause bacterial diseases. As a result, understanding the structure and function of periplasmic proteins is essential for developing strategies to combat bacterial infections.
