Overview

Membrane characteristics are important for many physiological and biochemical processes in a cell. They are composed of proteins and lipids, which form a selectively permeable barrier between the inside and the outside of a cell. They are responsible for controlling the passage of ions, small molecules, and macromolecules, including proteins and DNA, across the cell membrane. This enables cells to regulate their chemical environment, respond to external signals, and maintain homeostasis. Membrane characteristics also enable cells to capture energy from their environment and metabolize it, making them essential for the growth and function of cells.
