Overview
Histiocytes are cells in the body's immune system that are important for protecting against pathogens and their associated diseases. They are found in lymphoid and connective tissue, where they are involved in the body's inflammatory response. Histiocytes are also involved in the clearing and removal of dead cells, debris, and pathogens. They can also be found in the spleen, challenging bacteria, and secreting antibodies. They are significant in helping the body identify, target, and eliminate potentially harmful pathogens. Histiocytes offer protection from infections, autoimmunity, and other immunological disorders.
