Overview
Epimastigotes are a type of protozoan, which are single-celled organisms. They are a subspecies of the Trypanosomatid family, and can be found in the gut of various animals, such as ants and insects. They are of scientific interest because they can represent either a stage of the parasite's life cycle or can linger in their host's gut without ever moving to another host. Epimastigotes are used in medical research as model organisms to study diseases such as malaria and sleeping sickness. They are also used in biotechnology to study genetic engineering, as their compact genome makes them a good tool for this purpose.
