Overview

Electrophysiological techniques are a set of methods used to measure and record the electrical activity of cells and tissues in an organism. They are used extensively to provide insights into the mechanisms underlying the function of the nervous system. These techniques include recording direct electrical potentials from neurons, stimulation of excitable tissue, and the recording of electrical current passing through a cell membrane. By providing direct measurement of electrical activity, electrophysiological techniques can provide important insights into neuronal network dynamics, as well as the physiological relationships between neurons and their environment.
