Overview
of Alzheimer's Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurological disorder that causes brain degeneration and a decline in cognitive functioning. It is characterized by the accumulation of sticky amyloid plaque and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain, leading to memory deficits and changes in behavior, personality, and language skills. It is the leading cause of dementia among the elderly and is one of the most common diseases in the US. With no cure yet, treatments focus on managing its symptoms and slowing its progression. It is important to research disease mechanisms of Alzheimer's in order to develop better therapies and treatments to improve quality of life.
