Overview

Decidua is the name of the outer layer of the uterus surrounding a fetus during pregnancy. It is responsible for providing nutrients to the fetus and helping protect it from any potential adverse external influences. It also plays an important role in the process of childbirth, as the decidua must break down in order for the fetus to be expelled. In addition, the decidua can help to regulate the immune system during pregnancy, preventing the mother’s body from rejecting the fetus while also protecting her from harmful pathogens. Decidua is an essential part of a healthy and successful pregnancy and is thus of critical significance to both the mother and the fetus.
