Overview

Chemotaxis is the movement of an organism in response to a chemical stimulus. This phenomenon is important in various aspects of biology including microbial pathogenesis and development of multicellular organisms. Chemotaxis plays an essential role in numerous biological processes such as nutrient acquisition, immune response, and development of complex structures. In addition, it enables organisms to adapt to changing environmental conditions and aids in their survival. Its study is used to develop therapeutic strategies for diseases related to abnormal chemotaxis, such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, and cancer. Moreover, chemotaxis research is used to develop targeted drug delivery systems wherein the drugs are delivered to specific cells or tissue based on their chemotactic responses. Thus, chemotaxis has a wide range of applications in healthcare and biotechnology.
