Overview

Cell signaling is the process by which cells communicate with each other, enabling the coordination of biological processes between cells and tissues. Cell signaling involves the exchange of molecules between cells in the form of hormones, growth factors, and other extracellular messengers. These molecules bind to specialized receptors on the cell, triggering a series of intracellular events that relay the signal inside the cell. This process is essential for normal cellular functioning, as it allows cells to respond to external and internal stimuli. In addition, cell signaling plays a critical role in numerous diseases, such as cancer, and new insights into cell signaling pathways have yielded promising therapeutic strategies.
