Overview

Cell biology is a branch of biology that studies the structure, function and complex interactions of cells—the basic units of life. Chemical biology of the cell focuses on how these cellular interactions are regulated by the molecules within the cell, such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. By understanding the chemical processes that occur within cells, scientists can better understand the processes of life and disease, leading to potential breakthroughs in treatments and therapies. Chemical biology of the cell can be used to develop effective medications, create new medical technologies, and to diagnose and treat diseases. It is also important in understanding and manipulating the natural structure and behavior of cells, allowing us to advance in biotechnology and biomedical research.
