Overview
Axenic culture is a method of culturing living organisms in an environment free of other organisms. It is important in research for studying the behavior and effects of single species in isolation and for ensuring bacteria or other cells used in experiments are free from contamination. Axenic culture can also be used to identify and study particular organisms, as well as to develop new cultures of species for commercial or research purposes.
