Overview

Adhesins are proteins produced by a wide variety of organisms (such as bacteria, fungi, and plants) that are involved in attachment and adhesion to surfaces. They are important components of biofilms and cell-matrix interactions and are involved in diverse processes like pathogenesis, virulence, and host-pathogen interactions. Adhesins are necessary for bacteria to colonize different surfaces and are essential for the ability of bacteria to cause infections and transmit pathogens. In addition, adhesins are being studied for their potential applications in biotechnological applications such as bioremediation, nanorobotics, tissue engineering, and drug delivery.
