Overview

Protein research is the study of the structure, function and biological activity of proteins. It is an important field of biological research as proteins are one of the main components of cells and are essential for living organisms. Proteins are produced within the body for a wide variety of tasks such as energy production, movement, communication and cellular repair and growth. In medicine and biotechnology, protein research is used to develop new treatments or drugs to target diseases, as well as to learn more about how the body works. In agriculture, it is used to develop more productive crops, while in the food industry, it helps to create new food products. Furthermore, protein research explains the primary structure of proteins and can help to identify important interactions within or between proteins that can be used to modify protein behaviour and gain insights into cellular processes.
