Overview
General Medicine encompasses the comprehensive, non-specialized medical care provided to patients across a broad spectrum of health conditions, forming the foundation of primary healthcare delivery. Research published in this journal addresses critical dimensions of general medical practice, including strategies to enhance patient adherence to treatment recommendations, methodological approaches to conducting research within general practice settings, and the evolving nature of doctor-patient relationships. Studies have explored the consultation process as extending beyond the physical encounter with patients, examining preparation and follow-up activities essential to quality care. The doctor-patient relationship has been conceptualized through novel frameworks, including relational models that emphasize collaborative interaction. Recent work has investigated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on general practice, analyzing how physical distancing requirements necessitate new models for maintaining therapeutic relationships and examining clinical and epidemiological concepts requiring reassessment in light of pandemic experience. Additional research has evaluated practical tools such as medication plans as quality indicators in Family Medicine settings. These investigations collectively address fundamental questions about how general practitioners can optimize care delivery, maintain effective patient relationships, and adapt practice methods to changing healthcare environments.
